Après at Home

SM_APRES WEB-8869

The weather is finally turning colder, the snow is falling and the slopes are open. This is Colorado, and a flurry of winter activities are literally at your doorstep. From sledding to snowshoeing to skiing, you’re bound to find something you’ll enjoy. But I’m not here to talk about that. I’d prefer to focus on what comes at the end of the day. Known around the world as Après (French …continue…

Thanks for Inviting Me

BLOG_THANKSGIVING2016_WEB-0394

It’s been…a very long time since we posted. To be fair a lot has happened. Most notably, we got pregnant and now have another little one running around. Well, maybe not running yet, but you get the idea. But with Thanksgiving around the corner, it’s time we brushed off the computer and shared some thoughts about how to be a thoughtful guest at Turkey Day. If you’ve been invited somewhere for …continue…

MUSIC CITY HOT CHICKEN

2016-04-29 12.16.01

As habitual restaurant goers, we are always excited when something new opens up for us to try. Katie’s obsession with fried chicken is well known, and we are constantly on the lookout for new contenders. Doug’s been to Nashville a couple of times and has had their legendary “hot chicken” but for Katie, it was something she’d never even heard of. Now that she knows what it is, her brain …continue…

A TASTE OF THE KITCHEN

KITCHEN_WEB-0173

When was the last time you went out to dinner and branched out?  Tried something you wouldn’t normally try?  When was the last time you put your trust in the chef and his team and let them steer the way? The Kitchen Fort Collins has a menu set up to do just that.  Their “Taste of the Kitchen” menu is a multi-course tasting menu featuring a series …continue…

JAWS SUSHI

JAWS_WEB-50

It’s amazing that even living in a completely landlocked state, it’s still possible to get quality sushi here in Fort Collins. Campus West was often overlooked by us as being too “collegy.” However, several restaurants are changing our minds, most notably Jaws Sushi.  Incredible food, great atmosphere, fantastic service and easy parking make this sushi spot an easy choice for a night out. There are so many reasons to go …continue…

THE FARMHOUSE

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Katie and I went to the Farmhouse at Jessup Farm in Fort Collins for breakfast this morning and it was such an amazing experience I felt compelled to give a full review!  First off, full disclosure, I happen to be on friendly terms with owner of this restaurant, but that in no way impacts this review.  We’ve been wanting to go since they opened, and this morning seemed like a …continue…

Purple People Eater

BlueberryDrink

I’ve been experimenting a lot with homemade shrubs lately in my cocktails.  For those not familiar, a shrub is an old-fashioned way of preserving fruit by macerating it with sugar and then adding vinegar.  Shrubs have been experiencing a bit of a resurgence in the craft cocktail world lately and I’ve been having fun making my own at home and then figuring out ways to incorporate them into cocktails. …continue…

BE THANKFUL FOR BEER

SM_WEB-7533

Thanksgiving. That wonderful day when you’re encouraged to overindulge in those things worth indulging in: family, friends, food and drink. I suspect in most homes, wine gets the center spot at the dinner table. But this year, why not give beer a chance at the spotlight? Thanksgiving is a long day, so lets break this down step by step. If you’re going to start early, I suggest you stick to …continue…

BOURBON MAPLE PORKCHOPS

porkchop1

It’s taken me a few years, but I’ve finally gotten Katie excited about eating pork.  So lately I’ve been playing with some different recipes.  One of our favorite restaurants in Fort Collins, the 415 (http://thefourfifteen.com) has a delicious pork chop with this maple bourbon glaze that I fell in love with.  So I played around with re-creating my own take on it. Truthfully, I’m notoriously bad about measuring …continue…
